Esther is nearing thirty, with a great job and a flat she shares with her two best friends, Bibi and Louise. But her life is missing that special someone.  Tired of being single and sick of bad date after bad date, she thinks she’s found the answer to her romance problem in an old women's magazine. According to the magazine’s dating column, there are seven archetypes a woman will date before finding Mr. Right. It all seems silly at first, until Esther realizes she has exactly seven exes that match the The First Love, The Work Mistake, The Overlap, The Friend with Benefits, The Missed Chance, The Bastard, and The Serious One. Is it so hard to believe that perhaps one of them is The One?  Deciding she must have left her true love in the reject pile, Esther contacts each of her old boyfriends. But finding her soulmate isn’t as simple as she hoped it would be. Madness, mayhem...

Book talk - Review of Is This It? By Hannah Tovey

Ivy and Mia have been best friends since the fun, messy, hungover years of their twenties.Ten years later, Mia has it all - the man, the house, the career. Ivy is skint, single, and scared that she isn't a 'hot mess' any more - she's a walking disaster. But one night, Ivy switches her phone off, peels last night's drunken pizza off the sofa, and makes a list. A list that changes everything . . . The new Ivy has a proper job. She goes on fancy dates in wine bars. She's starting to think: maybe 'faking it till you make it' is easy? But then she meets Scott. Curly-haired, sarcastic Scott. Sh*t. _________________________________________________ Is This It came to me to just at the right time in my life. YES, it sounds awfully cliche to say, but it is true. I read the first few lines of the blurb and I was sold, just picture me standing in my kitchen shouting,  'wow, I need this'  I hadn't realised until I'd finished the book that this is ...

Book talk - Review of Perfect Timing by Owen Nicholls

Musician Tom and comedian Jess have brilliant timing on stage - but soon after a chance encounter, they learn the hard way that, when it comes to love, timing isn't so easy... Perfect for fans of will -they-won't-they love stories, romantic comedies and Josie Silver. For Jess and Tom, timing is everything. For her, it's the moment she delivers the perfect punchline. For him, it's the heartbeat in the music he makes with his band. And from the night they meet, sharing the same stage at the Edinburgh Festival, their attraction is undeniable. At first, it seems their timing is as perfect in the wings as it is in front of a crowd. But as Jess and Tom's careers take off, the moment for true connection is always just out of reach. With fate pushing them together, only to pull them apart, will the timing ever be right? After all, when it comes to love, the timing has to be perfect. . . doesn't it? I kindly received an early copy through Netgalley and have since been ...

How reading saved my life

Okay folks, let's get real for a second. I thought about doing a post like this for a long time, but always managed to find a reason to talk myself out of it. There have been quite a few post on the subject popping up here and there and after reading through a good dozen I kept thinking,  'Why am I being such a coward ? All of these people are so brave to put their feelings out there, so why can't I?  So today, I'm going to try and add my views and personal experiences to the subject 'Reading your way out of depression.'  I'll talk about the experiences I've made and what kind of role reading played in my battle with depression.  This post will probably consist of a lot of rambling, so just bear with me. Writing this post is something I've been meaning to do for over a year so there'll be a lot of ground to cover.  I've been meaning to make my posts a little more personal in general, rather than just churning o...

What bugs you about books? #Fridayrant with Emily

All bookworms have pet peeves when it comes to books. Wether you're watching other people with their books and wanting to scream, take the book away and write them a book on "how to read and handle books your way (the right way)",  or wether you want to write big, long, angry letters to publisher about the books they have published.  I.  Please don't start reading your book by cracking the spine and bending the book about.  DO YOU WANT IT TO BREAK?! DO YOU LIKE TO WATCH BOOKS IN PAIN?!   Seriously, I can't deal with my need to run dramatically over and rescue the book from your uncaring hands everytime I'm on the bus.  II.   Please don't ask to borrow my books if you don't have any intention of starting it in the next few weeks! My books are my children and I don't like parting with them.  III . Don't go t...

I found some wonderful books. Particularly picture books- MY WERE THOSE GORGEOUS. I almost couldn't contain my excitement and may have even squealed a little bit. I found her sitting next to the picture  +Hodder Childrens Books )  books shelf, wilding browsing through...

GUEST POST BY THE LOVELY ANNA BLOOM

The Uni Files Year One – The Art of Letting Go Read-Along Hey! Anna here, C ait messaged me last night and asked if I would write you guys a quick post telling you about the read-along we are arranging for my debut novel The Uni Files – The Art of Letting Go. The novel comes out next week, and can I just say I am completely overwhelmed by the positive response and support I am getting from readers and bloggers alike – I am feeling very loved right now which is great in itself. So anyway the idea for the read-along is we are going to split the novel into three sections, following the natural breaks in the story. Autumn, Spring and Summer terms i.e. The academic year. Each section will then be picked up by a blogger on their own site and they can discuss their favourite bits and try to guess where the story is going etc. The rest of the read-along gang can comment away. I will make sure everything is posted on my blog as well so we can keep track of everything.  I ...

Touch by Jus Accardo (Denazen #1)

Touch (A Denazen Novel) Genre: YA, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Dystopia, Written by: Jus Accardo (check out her website here .) Available as Paperback and Kindle edition Buy it here Published by Entangled publishing, November '11 bookshelves:  book-boyfriends ,  to-be-reviewed ,  best-of-ya   “If I had the ability to touch anyone else in this world, I still don't believe I'd want it to be anyone but you.”  I 'm not entirely sure what I was expecting when I started this book, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this . Most of all, I did not expect it to be so full of action and plot twists. I could hardly catch my breath. What a nice surprise. The story:  Meet Deznee Cross, cocky seventeen year old self proclaimed adrenaline junkie. She lives her life seizing every opportunity she can find to piss off her dad, wether it's by staying out until the early hours of the morning, getting bad grades in school or hanging out wi...

Back to you BY Priscilla Glenn

Back to you        Genre: NA, contemporary romance, child abuse/neglect, YA     Written by: Priscilla Glenn    Available as Paperback and Kindle edition   Published October 20th '12 by Creative Space   Get it here :       "I always knew I would fall in love with you," he said softly, "but you were never supposed to love me back." Now as you see by the rating alone, this one's quite high up there, especially because I hardly tend to rate anything higher than 3, even if I really enjoyed it. Usually my motto is, '3's plenty, no need to get rating happy! I've just seen a lot of people rating all of their previously read books above 4 and 5, completely throwing all caution to th...

The Fallen Star (The Fallen Star #1) BY Jessica Sorensen

The Fallen Star  Genre: YA, Paranormal Romance, Fantasy  Written by: #1 NYT best selling author Jessica Sorensen Available as Paperback or ebook Buy it here :  Published by: Creative Space in August '11 ISBN: 1461052149 Well this is one is gonna be a tough one to write, but here we go! Usually, Jessica's books are pretty high up on my list of YA favourites,  her books are sweet and usually highly entertaining, however... it saddens me to say, that I don't think 'The fallen star' is gonna make the cut. The story started out sweet and mysterious enough, and I was ready to throw myself into a new paranormal romance series.  Social outcast and protagonist Gemma walks through life unable to feel any kind of emotion, she's hollow and completely numb to anything going on around her..her family is a little on the odd side and to top it all off she seems to be on the verge of losing her sanity. That is,  unt...
